Kane Thinks Royal Rumble May Be His Last Big Main Event, Talks About His Run For Mayor Of Knox County
For Kane, the Royal Rumble may be his last shot at a main event title match.
He spoke to the New York Post about his upcoming triple threat match against Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar for the Universal title. At 50, he knows his days are winding down, and needs to make the most of what he gets.
“I have to take advantage of everyone that comes along” he said of the chance to be in the main-event picture. “This might be the last one. I don’t know. I certainly think the match at Royal Rumble is going to be special for me.”
Strowman's rise has been a particular interest in WWE programing as of late. Kane notices this, saying that since so many guys are smaller, but better athletes, having someone as big as Strowman is unique nowadays.
“The company has done a tremendous job with him, you know positioning him where he needs to be and he gets it and that can be a rarity often” Kane said. “I think he has a really bright future ahead of him. I think he is going to be a guy that going forth for many years is going to be at top or near the top of WWE.”
One thing he'll be focusing on later in 2018 is his run for Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. With the primaries in May, he's looking to take advantage of the situation by introducing himself as anything but a politician. He feels that by having people identify him as a pro wrestler coming in as opposed to someone from the political elite, he may have a shot at the seat.
“It’s sort of cool because your sort of entrenched political class is going to think that, oh he’s a wrestler and that’s going against him." he said. "It doesn’t. It actually works for me because you know people think that’s cool, but people know who I am too and the things that I have been doing in the community for years.”
The Royal Rumble will take place on January 28 in Philadelphia.
