Julia Hart discusses being part of the House of Black.

Hart has been with AEW since 2021, and she quickly aligned with the Varsity Blonds (Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison). Her cheerleader character was a natural fit with the team. After Malakai Black spit his black mist in her face, Hart gradually turned heel. She eventually joined Black and the House of Black group at AEW Double or Nothing 2022.

The stable spent some time off TV, but they have been dominant since they returned in November 2022. Black, Buddy Matthews, and Malakai Black won the AEW World Trios Championship by beating The Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks) at AEW Revolution 2023.

Speaking with Simon Miller for WhatCulture Wrestling, Hart was asked whether getting into the “spooky” side of wrestling was in the cards for her when she first got to AEW. Hart noted that she didn’t see herself in the role, but she’s loving it now.

“Not when I joined AEW, no. Maybe I was a kid, I definitely envisioned that. I knew I didn’t want to be known as a little girl forever. But definitely more of the growth and the more mature role that I have now, it’s just more creative freedom now. If you had told me a year ago this is what I’d be doing, I’d be like, ‘You’re crazy.’ But now I’m loving it,” Hart said.

Hart was also asked to describe what she hopes to contribute to the dark and gothic side of wrestling, as many of her noteworthy predecessors, including The Undertaker and Kane, have been males. She stated that she wants to set a tone that people can understand and relate to.

“I think I want to set a tone of something people can understand and more relatable, and just a cool, funky, spooky thing,” Hart said.

As for her work with the House of Black, Hart made it clear that Black, Matthews, and Murphy are all supportive, and they give her input. She stated that the group is like a family, and she enjoys working with them.

“They all can give me different input, and they all are so hands-on with me, and they’re so protective over me. We’re like a family. They’re great. I love working with them,” Hart said.
