Joy Giovanni Didn’t Think She Would Be Fired A Year Into A Three-Year Deal With WWE
Joy Giovanni recalls being fired by WWE.
Joy Giovanni was part of the 2004 Diva Search, finishing third in the competition. She was still signed a three-year deal by WWE after the competition. Joy was largely a personality on-screen and worked with the likes of Kurt Angle, Paul Wight (The Big Show), JBL, and more.
She was released by the company in July 2005.
Speaking on Cafe de Rene with Rene Dupree, Joy recalled being released by the company.
“It was like a year in total, it was not very long at all,” she said when asked how long her WWE run was. “They released me with a group of 50. Remember when they released Funaki, Charlie and Jackie Haas, and all those people? I was part of that. I was the last. Mark Jindrak was in my little crew. I had been at TV the last week, it was in Arizona. There were like 50 of us (released). I think I was the last one to find out because Mark and I are friends and I called him, probably crying, ‘what is going on?’ ‘Yeah, they do this.’ I had no idea. Who thinks…you get hired, they do all this to hire you, they sought me out after (the Diva search) personally. They bring you in, you sign a three-year deal, and they let you go after a year. I knew it was in the fine print, but you don’t think it’s going to happen.”
Giovanni did return at WWE at WrestleMania 25 to take part in the Miss WrestleMania Battle Royal.
WrestleMania 25 marked her only official match in the company.
