Jordan Oliver Gained Confidence After Wrestling Mike Bailey, ‘He’s The Best Independent Wrestler’
“Speedball” Mike Bailey is widely considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world. He’s 2022 resume included matches against Jonathan Gresham, Jon Moxley, Dax Harwood, and more.
Along with being a regular on IMPACT Wrestling, Bailey wrestles nearly every weekend, sometimes multiple times a weekend, on the independent scene.
Jordan Oliver shared the ring with Bailey at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 2022 in a match that wasn’t originally scheduled.
“That match was awesome, I wasn’t even supposed to wrestle Speedball on Spring Break. I was not on Spring Break part two, but then PCO got injured, he had to pull out. Mike Bailey showed up, we talked, maybe two or three minutes, we went to the ring and had maybe a match that changed my whole career. Mike Bailey is another level. A different level athlete. When you step in the ring with Mike Bailey, you can’t help but to not get better. It’s insane,” Oliver told Jeremy Lambert of Fightful. “I think Mike Bailey is the best independent wrestler on the planet right now.”
At only 23 years old, Oliver has established himself as one of the top names on the independent scene and has television experience, previously competing for MLW.
Asked when it started to click for him in the ring, Oliver circled back to the bout with Bailey.
“It would have been that Speedball match, WrestleMania week. After that match, it was like, ‘Oh, this is how you wrestle. This is how I’m supposed to do it.’ Obviously, I’m still not a finished product, but I definitely feel like I’m the best I’ve ever been and I feel like one of the best on the independents, not to be cocky or anything, but I feel very confident in my ability,” he said.
Oliver met Bailey in the ring once more JCW Jersey J-Cup in the finals of the tournament. Oliver was able to best Bailey, winning the J-Cup and becoming the new JCW Champion.
Elsewhere during the interview, Oliver discussed his hesitation to wrestle Jonathan Gresham. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
