Jonathan Gresham Earns PROGRESS World Title Shot With Victory At Ric Flair’s Last Match

Jonathan Gresham is back in the win column.

Gresham defeated Nick Wayne, Konosuke Takeshita, and Alan Angels in a four-way bout to earn a shot at the PROGRESS World Championship. The finish saw Gresham catch Angels in an O’Connor Roll for the win.

Chris Ridgeway is the reigning PROGRESS World Champion, winning the vacant title by defeating Warren Banks in the finals of the Super Strong 16 tournament. Gresham is a former PROGRESS World Champion, but was stripped of the title after match against Gene Munny ended in DQ at Progress Chapter 134: No Mountain High Enough. The stipulation stated Gresham would lose the title if he got DQ following an attack by Lykos Gym on Munny before the match.

Before his bout at Ric Flair’s Last Match, Gresham last wrestled at ROH Death Before Dishonor where he lost the ROH World Title to Claudio Castagnoli.

After the bout, Gresham deactivated his Twitter account and it was reported by Fightful Select that Gresham had requested his release from ROH/AEW. Fightful was told from Gresham’s side of things that as of this moment, Gresham is “done with wrestling for the foreseeable future after this month.”
