Jon Moxley Reveals Which WWE Hall Of Famer Was His AEW Double Or Nothing Gear Inspired From
Jon Moxley had big plans for his ring gear at Double Or Nothing, but had to improvise.
Speaking to Fightful on the Double Or Nothing virtual media scrum, Moxley noted that he originally had plans for new gear to be brought in for his AEW World Championship match against Brodie Lee. However, not everything arrived on time due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He did manage to have someone make an adjustment to his jacket, which was Bret Hart-inspired, which included putting barbed wire on it.
“Everybody’s looking to steal the show every night. AEW pay-per-views are can’t miss and we have to keep it this way. Every AEW pay-per-view is like a WrestleMania feel in the back like this is it, this is game time. You bring out that little bit extra, some new gear. I’m trying to get new gear, but this pandemic is messing with the shipping and so the new pants didn’t come. My sick Bret Hart jacket, I tried to find those epaulet things, but I couldn’t get those. The dude here, Charlie, he made barbed wire epaulets, so I had kind of a Bret Hart-themed, barbed wire-y themed sick jacket that was way too heavy and way too hot so I had it on for about 30 seconds. I hope people enjoyed that,” Moxley said.
Moxley would go on to say that he wanted to put in a little more effort into his ring gear presentation because Double Or Nothing was a pay-per-view show.
“You definitely put in a little extra effort when you know you’re on pay-per-view and we’re trying to gain and maintain the good will of the fans. If we’re going to ask to pay money, then they know they’re getting an incredible show,” Moxley said.
At Double Or Nothing, Moxley ended up beating Lee to retain the AEW World title. You can check out the full media scrum at this link. If you use any of the quotes above, please credit Fightful for the transcription.
