Jon Moxley: I Was Pissed About Leaving WWE, I Wanted That F*cking Money
Jon Moxley leaving WWE was one of the biggest stories of the year. And while his on record frustrations make it sound like he was happy to get out of WWE, he now admits that he wasn’t thrilled about how things got as bad as they did.
Following his WWE departure, and signing with AEW, Moxley vented about his final months in WWE, expressing his frustrations over poor creative material. The frustrations reached a boiling point to where he decided it was best if he walked away from WWE and pursued creative fulfillment elsewhere. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Moxley revealed that he wasn’t happy to be leaving WWE, he was actually pissed it reached that point.
“I felt like I had a lot of weight on my shoulders back then because I was still so far from the finish line. There was a lot of ‘ughhh.’ Once I decided I was gonna leave, I wasn’t happy about it, for a while,” recalled Moxley. “I was pretty pissed about it. I’m like, ‘are they really gonna make me leave? Are they that…they’re gonna make me leave, aren’t they? They’re gonna fuck everything up so bad.’ I wanted that fucking money. It’s not like I don’t want money. I like to put it in the bank and look at it. I was like, ‘I can’t believe they’re gonna make me walk away from all this money.’ Can’t you write one good storyline? It got to the point where I’m like…this can’t be real. Am I on some kind of reality show? Is this the new WWE Network reality show? Is Vince actually saying these words? Does he actually run a billion-dollar company? This is a joke.”
Moxley was reportedly offered a five-year deal, with a downside of $1 million per year to stay in WWE. Instead, Moxley turned down the offer and signed a multi-year deal with AEW, where he says he doesn’t have to deal with scriptwriters.
Elsewhere during the interview, Moxley revealed he doesn’t miss the Dean Ambrose character. You can read his full comments by clicking here.
Moxley is scheduled to face Joey Janela on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Fightful will provide live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
