Jon Moxley To Defend IWGP World Heavyweight Title Against Powerhouse Hobbs On 4/24 AEW Dynamite
Powerhouse Hobbs will get the opportunity to become the new IWGP World Heavyweight Champion when he faces Jon Moxley on the April 24 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Moxley personally challenged Hobbes to meet him in the ring on April 24 when Moxley returned to AEW on the April 17 episode of Dynamite. At the time, it was believed that this would be a standard singles encounter between two of the top singles competitors in All Elite Wrestling.
However, Don Callis raised the stakes on the April 20 episode of AEW Saturday Collision.
Shortly after Powerhouse Hobbs picked up a dominant victory in singles action, Callis revealed that he was cashing in favors owed to him by NJPW to make the match in Jacksonville on April 24 an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match. Moxley won the belt at NJPW Windy City Riot on April 12 by defeating Tetsuya Naito.
Callis claimed that New Japan still owes him after he brokered the deal that booked Kenny Omega versus Chris Jericho for Wrestle Kingdom 12, a match that increased the exposure of NJPW in the West and many people believe was the precursor to AEW.
Don Callis announces a MAJOR stipulation added to the match between IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley and #PowerhouseHobbs!
