Johnny Mundo Says WWE And IMPACT Are Getting Ideas From Lucha Underground
Johnny Mundo believes that some of the most noteworthy things to happen in WWE and IMPACT drew inspiration from Lucha Underground.
In an interview with Sportskeeda, Mundo said some things produced by WWE and IMPACT, such as the House of Horrors match and Total Nonstop Deletion, were inspired by the way Lucha Underground produces their own shows and has a gritty atmosphere.
“Totally agree," Mundo said. "I feel like Lucha Underground was the first promotion that’s really integrated the gritty, action movie feel with wrestling. Shooting the vignettes that stitch Lucha Underground together, with coverage like a TV show or a movie has set that trend. You’re right, the Total Deletion and WWE House of Horrors and even some of the costumes in WWE. I feel the trends were started in Lucha Underground.”
Both House of Horrors, a match that was mostly pre-taped for the Payback pay-per-view earlier this year between Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, and Total Nonstop Deletion, an entire episode of Impact Wrestling set at the Hardy Compound, produced in the same manner many Broken Matt Hardy vignettes and matches were made, had been heavily produced, more so than the typical wrestling segment or promo. That style is something that Lucha Underground is known for since its inception in 2014.
Mundo has been a part of Lucha Underground since its premiere episode, having won the Lucha Underground Championship and is one of the program's top stars.
