Johnny Gargano Addresses Being Compared To Daniel Bryan, And Speaks On Working With Candice LeRae In NXT
"Johnny Wrestling" is on fire.
Coming down from an amazing start to his 2018, Mr. "All Heart" himself Johnny Gargano spoke with Chris Van Vliet recently and the two parties went over a number of topics including: Gargano being able to work with his wife Candice LeRae in NXT, the concern he's received from fans about being mishandled once he is called up to the main roster, and more.
Former PWG World Tag Team Champion Candice LeRae signed with the WWE earlier this year and her first piece of on-screen action came in the form of taking down Zelina Vega for Vega's constant interference in Johnny Gargano and Andrade "Cien" Almas' NXT Championship match at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia. Johnny Gargano has stated on numerous occasions that he is elated to have Candice in the same company as he is and further dove into the topic in this interview.
"It's amazing how everything has worked out. It's literally a dream come true to be in the position I'm in. To be able to main event TakeOvers but also to have my wife there with me now. Candice has worked just as hard as I have if not harder. Especially for what she did on the indies, she was an absolute trendsetter. So me being biased as her husband, I'm pumped to see her in NXT so I can be with her, but as a pure wrestling fan I am so excited to see her in NXT because she's one of the best wrestlers in the world."
Johnny Gargano is highly regarding as being the best "babyfaces" in professional wrestling today. Gargano's facial expressions, his body movements after being attacked and the never-give-up attitude that he displays on NXT TV has connected him to the fans. Another competitor who share those same traits as Johnny Gargano is former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan. Gargano states that he is aware of the comparisons that people make between him and the leader of the "Yes" movement and just sees it as an honor to be mentioned along with Bryan.
"I get a lot of comparisons to Daniel Bryan and trust me, I am flattered by all of them because we mentioned New Orleans and WrestleMania, I watched it at home and watched Daniel Bryan in the main event of WrestleMania achieve his dreams. I've said this numerous times, I've been in the ring with Daniel Bryan and he's the best wrestler in the world, bar none. So to be able to see him come back this year, and I know he recently said in an interview that he wanted me to lose so he could steal me to go on SmackDown Live which I very much appreciate, I'm going to give him a rain check on that one because I still have a couple of things I want to accomplish in NXT."
Johnny Gargano got his revenge on his former best-friend Tommaso Ciampa at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, which in-doing so earned his job back in NXT. Head over to Fightful's coverage of TakeOver: New Orleans to read about the hard-hitting bout that was Johnny Gargano versus Tommaso Ciampa.
