Samoa Joe Defeats Johnny Elite On 5/18 AEW Dynamite, Advances In Owen Hart Foundation Tournament
Try as they might, the Samoan Submission Machine cannot be stopped.
On the May 18 episode of AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe faced off against a mystery opponent in the quarterfinals of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament. On the line was a spot in the semis where a match against either Kyle O’Reilly or Ref Fenix awaits.
After much speculation, Joe’s opponent was revealed to be Johnny Elite (John Morrison in WWE). Despite a strong showing, Johnny wasn’t unable to overcome the ROH Television Champion who moves on in the tournament. After the bell, Satnam Singh, Jay Lethal, and Sonjay Dutt attacked Joe until being eventually chased off by Trent Beretta, Rocky Romero, and Chuck Taylor.

WWE released Morrison in November 2021 and returned to action in February 2022 at AAA’s Rey de Reyes event. He has since also competed for GCW and at Triplemania XXX. This marked his first performance on AEW programming.
The finals of the tournament are set to take place on May 29 at Double or Nothing. To view the updated card for the event, click here.
