John Bradshaw Layfield Defends WWE’s Decision To Go To Saudi Arabia
John Bradshaw Layfield supports WWE and their decision to go to Saudi Arabia.
Appearing on FOX Business, the former WWE champion defended WWE’s decision to go to Saudi Arabia and ripped Senators for wanting WWE to pull out.
From what I understand, WWE is going to go there. The official line is they are ‘monitoring the situation.’ My personal opinion is that they should go. The only way you promote change — look what we did with Cuba. You isolate a country, all you do is impoverse (sic, empower) that country,” said Layfield. “You want to promote change. WWE went to Abu Dhabi. They ahd the first women’s match that ever happened in the Middle East. The crowd was chanting, in English, ‘This is change.’ For these Senators to come out and bash the WWE on this. I have spent seven Christmases in Iraq and Afghanistan with WWE. I was with WWE, the first group to go down and visit the Twin Towers while they were still burning and bodies were being pulled out. We were the first group, on 9/13, to has a mass gathering after 9/11. For these guys to hide behind their patriotism and their flag waving to me, to try to improve their abysmal approval ratings to me is wrong. WWE has been at the forefront of change and you want to change Saudi Arabia, you send something like WWE there.”
As previously reported, there are those within WWE who are uncomfortable with the situation and traveling to Saudi Arabia in light of recent events. The Saudi Royal Court has been accused of murdering Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi following his disappearance earlier this month.
WWE’s only comment thus far is that they are “currently monitoring the situation.” They have removed references of Saudi Arabia from their website and the country was not mentioned last night on Raw. But as of now, they still plan on holding Crown Jewel on Nov. 2 in Saudi Arabia.
