Joe Hendry: Wrestling Needs More In-Ring People Like Psycho Sid, I Can Do That

Joe Hendry says he drew inspiration from Psycho Sid, Scott Steiner, and Goldberg as he revamped his style as a wrestler.

Joe Hendry says everything is starting to click ahead of IMPACT Bound For Glory.

Hendry has been appearing in vignettes on IMPACT TV in recent weeks, and he will make his in-ring debut in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet at IMPACT Bound For Glory.

In an interview with Metro, Hendry discussed his return to IMPACT and emphasized that he’s excited to show the world the new version of him.

“I feel like things are really starting to click. A lot of people they remember who I was in-ring in 2016 when I’d been wrestling for three years. That’s where my criticism might come from. But what they may not have seen is what I look like. I bulked up to 265lbs, legit. I bulked up massively, people haven’t seen what I do now so I’m excited to show that at Bound For Glory,” Hendry said.

Hendry then noted how being forced to temporarily stop wrestling due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to reassess what he could bring to the table in the wrestling world. He concluded that it needed more powerhouses like Psycho Sid, Goldberg, and Scott Steiner.

“I needed the pandemic to stop me wrestling, to take a step back and go, you know what wrestling’s missing? We need more in-ring people like Psycho Sid, like Scott Steiner, like Goldberg. I thought, you know what? If I bulk up, I can do that and I can merge it with the entertainment. I realized then – I was kinda doing some technical stuff, kinda doing some power stuff. I can be the guy that suplexes two people, nips up and then says my catchphrase. I started to realize, that’s what my act is,” he said.

A lot has changed since Hendry last regularly competed on Ring of Honor programming. At Bound For Glory, he hopes to showcase his growth and kick off a new chapter of his career.

“A year ago, I was wondering, when am I next gonna get back to America. I’ve bulked up now – at one point, it was bordering on superheavyweight. I’m athletic, I can do these entrances, I can these vignettes. I’m focusing in on pro wrestling and I’m just ready to deliver,” Hendry said.

Hendry previously stated that IMPACT has the best TV wrestling product in the game right now. You can check out his comments here.
