JJ Gale: Me And Luke Jacobs Were Making A Statement At RevPro High Stakes
JJ Gale looks back on his RevPro High Stakes matchup with Luke Jacobs.
JJ Gale looks back on his physical battle with Luke Jacobs at RevPro High Stakes.
At the event, Gale and Jacobs would face off one on one in a match built on a bitter rivalry between the two young stars of British wrestling. It was an intense affair, but in the end Jacobs was able to score the victory over Gale.
While speaking to Fightful’s Corey Brennan in a recent interview, JJ Gale reflected on the bout, noting that the pair were sending a message on the big stage.
“I think me and Luke, we’ve wrestled two three times before um but they were just matches. They were just, here’s a couple good wrestlers and they’re gonna have a match on a show. It was different this time. There was a lot of vitriol going into this match. I started off my year beating Callum Newman in the main event of the first RevPro show of the year, which is massive for me and as I was basking in that moment, Luke comes out, he attacks me from behind, he puts a beating on me. So from the off, there’s some heat there, and not only that, it’s Will Ospreay’s last match. There’s over 2,000 people in the arena. Some of them know who I am. A lot of them probably don’t. Luke’s had standout matches with guys like Ishii and everyone else. So I’m there and I want to prove that, like I said earlier, that I belong and I want people to walk out of that show knowing the name JJ Gale. The only way to do that is to go out there and have a banger. I think that’s what we did. It was aggressive. It was physical. We were making a statement that, yes, there’s some big names on the show, but there’s also some of the very best talent in the UK and that we’re here week in, week out. This is what we can do. I’d like to think we delivered in showing that.”
After the matchup, Jacobs would take a microphone and give Gale his respect, calling him a hell of a wrestler.
Elsewhere in Gale’s interview with Fightful, he discussed being the sole survivor of the Revolution Tag team match. You can read more about that here.
