Jim Ross Thinks Swerve Strickland’s Military Background Is A Good Thing To Sell For A Babyface
Jim Ross discusses Swerve Strickland winning AEW World Title.
AEW Dynasty closed with Swerve Strickland defeating Samoa Joe to win the AEW World Champion. Swerve made history by becoming the first African American AEW World Champion.
Jim Ross was on the call for the bout and spoke about it on Grilling JR.
“I thought it was great. Even though I waited a long time to call it, I was glad I got to call it. Very pleased and blessed about that. Swerve’s a tough guy. That’s one of the things that attracts me to him. He is a very, very physical, tough guy. I want to know more about his military service. We’ve gotta address that because he’s mentioned it two or three times on interviews and so forth, and I think that’s a good thing to sell for a babyface, especially because you served your country. But he’s a tough guy. The angle going into that match with he and Joe, I thought was extremely well done and very physical. I credit Samoa Joe with a lot of that because you’ve gotta have a dance partner, and Samoa Joe is an amazing dance partner. He’s been a great champion. Who’s to say he’s not gonna be champion again? AEW could go a whole hell of a lot worse than two guys with character like Swerve, like Joe. That’s what you build a roster around. Solid human beings, and there’s one right there, Samoa Joe. I thought Joe had a hell of a night, and congratulations to Swerve, no doubt about it. He’s living a dream. Being the first Black AEW [World] Champion was a big deal to him. It wasn’t like it was just like a throwaway promo line. He really was motivated to accomplish that feat, and he did it,” said Ross.
