Jeff Jarrett Says He Would’ve Loved To Have Signed The Briscoes To TNA In The Mid-2000s
Dem Boys were never contractually available for The King of the Mountain.
Mark and Jay Briscoe are embedded into the foundation of Ring of Honor wrestling. Having been a part of the company since its beginning, Mark and Jay Briscoe made history this year when they were the first tag team inducted into the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame.
However, during the mid-2000s, while they were making their way up the ladder of Ring of Honor, TNA Wrestling was quickly becoming the number two promotion in North America. The Briscoes did work some early TNA events in 2002, but nothing permanent was ever worked out between Dem Boys and TNA.
Jeff Jarrett, the founder of TNA Wrestling, recently interacted with Mark and Jay Briscoe at the Crockett Cup event in Nashville, Tennessee that took place during the weekend of March 19, 2022. while Jeff Jarrett was calling the action in the world championship Main Event, Mark and Jay Briscoe were winning the Crockett Cup Tournament, defeating the Commonwealth Connection in the finals.
Speaking on his My World podcast, Jeff Jarrett explained that he always wanted to sign The Briscoe Brothers to TNA Wrestling, in the mid-2000s, but they were never available because they always committed to Ring of Honor.
“Oh, The Briscoes! Oh my God,” Jeff began. “You know, on this podcast, we talk about what I missed, or what happened, what if, and all that. Monty Brown is always at the top of your [Conrad Thompson] list and point taken, but I tried, and tried, and tried, it just didn’t work out. Recently, there’s a couple other names that — anyhow, I really look back on that 2005-2008 [timeframe] and go back to the conversations I had with Dutch [Mantel], and The Briscoes, we never could contractually — they would always resign and I would have loved to have had them in TNA and man, in 2022, Those boys, Dem Boys tore the house down.”
Jeff Jarrett cost Nick Aldis the NWA championship at the Crockett Cup event when he disqualified Aldis for thinking that Mickie James low-blowed him from behind when it was actually Chelsea Green. Speaking about that match, Jarrett deflected any questions regarding his officiating and just commented on the match quality.
“Classic NWA Title match is what I said at the very top of the match, and that’s what they gave them. From bell-to-bell, it was classic, and I do mean bell-to-bell.”
Matt Cardona recently joked that he was surprised Jeff Jarrett didn’t walk out with the NWA World Heavyweight Championship himself at the end of the event. Learn more here.
