JD McDonagh Says He Learned Of CM Punk’s Return Before Just Before WarGames Match
JD McDonagh discusses CM Punk’s return.
JD McDonagh had a memorable night at WWE Survivor Series as he competed in the WarGames match and took a monster RKO from Randy Orton, being tossed off the top rope and into Orton’s arms.
Once the WarGames match was over, “Cult of Personality” played and CM Punk made his return to WWE, appearing on a WWE show for the first time in nearly a decade.
“Yeah, I was just looking at the crowd seeing who was reacting how hard they were reacting. At the end of the day, I get it. I understand that this is a business and we’re here to make money for the company. If you look at the social media numbers from the weekend, if you look at the viewership on RAW this week, the dude makes money for the company, he draws eyes to the product. I’m going to be on the shows that he’s on now, drawing more eyes to that, so all good in my book. We’ll see how it goes and either way it’ll be interesting to be backstage and and see it all go down,” McDonagh told Alex McCarthy of Daily Mail.
Asked if he learned of Punk’s return just before the match, McDonagh said, “Yeah. It was just background noise to me and I was like, OK, cool. I need to focus up on what’s going on here.”
WWE Survivor Series marked the first time McDonagh had met Punk or Orton, and he said about the two men, “Both seem like lovely guys.”
Orton commented on meeting McDonagh for the first time, saying he is built different.
Punk is set to appear on Friday’s WWE SmackDown. Fightful will have coverage of the show beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
