JD McDonagh Brings Up WWE Hosting A PLE In Ireland Any Chance He Gets, ‘Dublin Needs To Make A Play For WWE’
JD McDonagh wants to see a WWE PLE come to Ireland, specifically Dublin.
WWE is hosting many more PLEs internationally than ever before. In 2024 alone, Scotland, France, and Berlin have all played host to major events. With a handful of top stars in the company being Irish, there is a desire for that market to finally get the opportunity to host a major WWE spectacle.
Speaking with Irish Wrestling & Entertainment, JD McDonagh says he pushes for an event in Ireland any chance he gets and believes that Dublin should make a play for a major WWE show.
“Any chance I get, I bring it up, and we’ve had a few great crowds this year in WWE in France, and there was Puerto Rico a couple years back that was crazy, and Germany this year was pretty wild. But any chance, I say, ‘Well, if you want a good crowd, the Irish fans are pretty insane.’ So we’re trying, we’re trying to get it going. I know there’s a few Irish on the Raw roster. There’s never been as much Irish representation in WWE, so I think if we get our ducks in a line, maybe something good could happen in the next couple years. Who knows? But Dublin needs to make a play for WWE these days. As I said, we’re the biggest ticket in town. We’re like an attraction now coming to your city, so hopefully, the right people can get talking to WWE and make it happen.”
Prior to the global pandemic in 2020, NXT UK was planning on hosting a major TakeOver event in Ireland, but the pandemic changed everything, and the NXT UK brand was shelved before fans could attend shows again. The plan is still to replace NXT UK with NXT Europe. Learn more here.
Elsewhere in the interview, McDonagh spoke about getting the opportunity to return to OTT in Ireland alongside Finn Balor as the World Tag Team Champions. Read his comments here.
