Jay White: Whatever Will Ospreay Wants To Do Is Never Going To Be As Important As What I Do In NJPW
Jay White discusses his goals in NJPW compared to those of Will Ospreay after being questioned about Ospreay defending his championship more times than White has.
This year’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event is headlined by a double main event. The first of two main events will feature Will Ospreay defending his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against Kenny Omega and the second main event will see Jay White defending his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Kazuchika Okada.
Recently, Jay White was interviewed by New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s website and during the interview, he was questioned about the fact that Will Ospreay has defended the United States Championship more than he has defended the World Heavyweight Championship. In response, Switchblade said he doesn’t know what Ospreay’s goals are but his goals are to be a leader and he displays, in his mind, intelligence by picking and choosing when to defend the championship.
“This (World) title is worth a lot more than his so of course this gets defended less often. Also, that’s all up to Will. If he wants to put his neck out there constantly and put himself at risk, that’s up to him. That’s why I’m a great smart champion because I’m smart with where I defend. I want to lead this place. Will- I have no idea what Will wants to do, but it’s never going to be as significant or important as what I do,” said Jay.
Jay was also recently interviewed by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp and during that interview, he addressed the rumors surrounding Mercedes Varnado (Sasha Banks) potentially coming to NJPW and openly stated that he would be more than happy to have a conversation with her about her joining Bullet Club.
