IMPACT Wrestling World Championship Changes Hands In The First Match In AEW Rampage History

Christian Cage has captured the IMPACT Wrestling World Championship.

In the first ever match to take place on AEW Rampage on TNT, Christian Cage has become the IMPACT Wrestling Champion for the first time in his career.

Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega in the first match to ever take place on Rampage. With this victory, Christian Cage becomes 9-0 since debuting in AEW at Revolution back in March. On the flip side, Kenny Omega has suffered his first loss in this calendar year.

The only other major losses Kenny had suffered in AEW were back in 2019. At Double or Nothing that year, Chris Jericho defeated Kenny Omega in the first-ever main event in the company’s history and then Jon Moxley defeated Kenny Omega at Full Gear 2019 in a match. That was unsanctioned, so it did not count towards the record books.

Christian Cage, who was a two-time NWA Champion during his tenure in TNA Wrestling, has now become the top champion in IMPACT Wrestling. Next for him will be a title defense against Brian Myers next Friday night at iMPACT Emergence. Should he make it past Brian, he will be able to turn his attention to Sunday, September 5 where he will once again face Kenny Omega, but for the AEW World Championship, at AEW All Out.
