Impact Interested In Former WWE Tag Champ, Others
Matt Sydal might be soaring his way into Impact Wrestling soon.
The Wrestling Observer recently listed Sydal among several talents that Impact is interested in adding to its roster.
Known as Evan Bourne during his run in WWE, Sydal was a tag champion for that company with Kofi Kingston. He also had a brief run with the tag titles in his pre-WWE stint with Ring Of Honor, teaming with Christopher Daniels. Since leaving WWE, Sydal has returned to ROH, also making appearances for PWG and other highly regarded independent promotions. Sydal also was appearing regularly for New Japan Pro Wrestling, most notably teaming with Ricochet, but his affiliation with that promotion ended late last year after he was arrested for possession of cannabis on his way into Japan in September of 2016. Sydal spent months in a Japanese detention center before being released and remains on probation in that country.
The Observer mentioned both Sydal and Travis "Flip" Gordon as potential additions to the X Division, also noting Impact had interest in bringing in the original Mascarita Sagrada (who was known as El Torito in WWE) to renew his rivalry with fellow former WWE minis wrestler Hornswoggle.
The Observer went on to report that Impact had an interest in Lio Rush, but instead, Rush could be headed to WWE's NXT brand instead. Rush has been working for EVOLVE, which has strong ties to WWE, since his Ring Of Honor contract expired.
