The Hype Bros Say They’re Still Owed That Tag Title Shot

The Hype Bros are back together and ready to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. In fact, they think they should be at the head of the line.

Appearing on Talking Smack on the WWE Network, both Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder, the duo comprising The Hype Bros, believe that they deserve an opportunity to compete for the SmackDown Tag Team titles after not being able to capitalize on being the number one contenders late last year.

On the December 13 episode of SmackDown Live, The Hype Bros competed in a tag-team battle royal to determinate the number one contenders for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Despite Rawley being eliminated, Ryder won the battle royal for his team and become the number one contenders. However, while performing his finisher on Konnor of The Ascension to secure the victory, Ryder injured his knee and has not appeared on television since then, returning Tuesday night.

“I think we became number one contenders for a reason,” Rawley said. “A lot of work went into that. Zack gave his knee. We earned that opportunity.”

“Would you pass that up? We have an opportunity that we earned,” Ryder said. “We earned it. It sucks that I got hurt. It sucks that I did. I think we both have proven on our own that we are great. We’re fantastic performers, but we earned this tag title opportunity. To not go after it would be stupid.”

While Ryder was injured, Mojo Rawley competed as a singles wrestler, winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33, last eliminating current WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. The two became a tag team during their time competing in NXT.
