Hulk Hogan Believes Kenny Omega May Not Need WWE To Complete His Story
Hulk Hogan shares his thoughts on the future of Kenny Omega.
Much has been made of the free agency of former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega. He recently told Tokyo Sports that he is done with NJPW, leading many to believe that he will sign with WWE or AEW. WWE reportedly made him “a fantastic offer” and he has ties to AEW due to his friendship with the Young Bucks and Cody.
One man who is synonymous with WWE, but has also led a war going against the company, is Hulk Hogan. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Hogan gave his opinion on Omega’s future.
“It’s tough to go your whole life without eating at McDonald’s or riding in a Chevrolet,” said Hogan. “If you don’t touch on the WWE, the story’s not complete. But maybe Kenny could be the exception.”
Hogan famously joined WCW after a lengthy run atop WWE and helped WCW overtake WWE as the No. 1 wrestling promotion in the world for a short time. During his time in WWE, Hogan also worked in Japan. Omega has spent the majority of his career in Japan, helping NJPW grow to new heights both in Japan and in the United States.
“I fell in love with Japan in 1978,” said Hogan. “Times were different back then, there were no cell phones or internet. There was no cross-promotion of social media platforms, and you couldn’t watch my matches in Tokyo or Fukuoka or Osaka like you can now. I wasn’t married until December of ’83, and I hadn’t started a family yet, so in ’78 I was over there running hard.
“I could have stayed in Japan. I loved working there with Freddie Blassie. That’s when I was working for Vince Sr. He sent me over there and I fell in love with the place. I used to call him after a four-week tour and ask if I could stay the extra six days until the next tour started. I loved it in Japan.”
Hogan returned to WWE television this past Monday to honor the late “Mean” Gene Okerlund. You can view the segment in the video above.
