Huge Bantamweight Fight Set For UFC Fight Night Portland Main Event
A couple of former flyweights turned bantamweight hard hitters will clash in the main event of UFC Fight Night Portland
According to Fox Sports, former UFC Flyweight title challenger John Dodson will take on the surging John Lineker in the main event slot, with both men vying for a hopeful spot at the top of the UFC’s Bantamweight division.
Lineker (28-7) has been undefeated since moving to bantamweight last year. He’d missed weight four times at flyweight, but has still won nine of his last ten fights. Both of his UFC losses were to opponents who would fail drug tests under a year later. Lineker was in line for a shot at the 125 pound title, but was forced to bantamweight due to the aforementioned weight issues. Lineker last fought in July, with a one-sided destruction over Michael McDonald.
Dodson (17-7), has went 7-2 in the UFC, with his two lone defeats being to Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson. After his second title loss, Dodson decided to try his luck a weight class up, and finished Manny Gamburyan in under 40 seconds at UFC on FOX in April.
Despite the two being top 125 pounders over the last several years, they never ended up locking horns.
UFC Fight Night Portland takes place on October 1 from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. Other fights on the card include Will Brooks vs. Alex Oliveira, Sergio Pettis vs. Luis Smolka, and more.
