Hangman Page: Luke Gallows Has Everything To Do With My Name Even Though I Don’t Know Him
How did Adam Page become Hangman Page?
Like any good name change story in wrestling, it started because the name Adam Page was too similar to the name of another wrestler. So, one part of the name had to go. Instead of just chopping off his first name, Page replaced it with something that fit him thanks to a recent NJPW departure.
Appearing on AEW Unrestricted, Hangman was asked about Luke Gallows and how he influenced the name Hangman despite the two not really know each other.
“I’ve met him one time. I’m sure (he’s out of his mind). Him, [Karl] Anderson, and AJ [Styles] had just left (NJPW). New Japan knew they were bringing in Adam Cole to be in Bullet Club and I was suggested to be the other person. So you’ve got Adam Cole and Adam Page, who look kinda similar and had similar wrestling styles. Cole was a main event guy in ROH. I was going to have to do something different and that was the suggestion [the name] from Gedo. I thought Hangman would be cool and I would have this noose. Instead of Gallows, I’ll be Hangman. Me telling you the story was probably as much thought as we put into it because I was so excited to get over there and get things going,” said Hangman.
Hangman joined NJPW in 2016, spending two years there before leaving for AEW at the beginning of 2019. He could have reclaimed the name from Adam Cole, who was “murdered” by The Young Bucks to signify his time in Bullet Club coming to an end.
Elsewhere during the interview, Hangman discussed his appearance at All In and how dick wrestling is good. You can view his full comments by clicking here.
