As announced during the February 28 episode of MLW Underground, Jacob Fatu will challenge Fatu for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship on the March 21 episode. Fatu earned a title sho by winning the 2022 Battle Riot battle royal. The two stars have been feuding in recent weeks, as they have been on a collision course since Fatu made it clear that he had the title in his sights.

Hammerstone won the MLW World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Fatu at MLW Fightland 2021. The bout was a Title vs. Title Match; at the time, Hammerstone was the reigning MLW National Openweight Championship. With the win, he ended Fatu’s 819-day reign with the world title.

Since MLW Underground premiered on February 7, Hammerstone has defended the title against EJ Nduka and YAMATO on the show. Throughout his reign, he has also defeated names like Davey Richards and Richard Holliday.
