Gunther Surpasses Pedro Morales, Becomes Second-Longest Reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion

Gunther makes even more history as WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Gunther has now hit 427 days as WWE Intercontinental Champion, giving him the second-longest reign in WWE history. Gunther has surpassed Pedro Morales, who held the title for 424 days.

The current record is held by Honky Tonk Man, who had a reign of 453 days. Gunther needs to hold the championship until September 8 in order to surpass The Honky Tonk Man and become the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time.

Gunther won the title on the June 10, 2022 episode of WWE SmackDown when he defeated Ricochet. He has made 13 successful TV/PLE defenses of the title. He most recently defeated Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam 2023 to retain his title.

Gunther is next slated to defend his championship against Chad Gable after Gable earned the right to face the Intercontinental Champion.

Previously, Gunther has talked about surpassing The Honky Tonk Man’s record. Read his comments here.
