Gunther Surpasses One Year As WWE Intercontinental Champion
Gunther has reached one year as the WWE Intercontinental Champion.
After defeating Ricochet on June 10, 2022, Gunther has gone on an absolute tear with the WWE Intercontinental Championship. From classic matches against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre to strong defeats against the likes of Mustafa Ali and Shinsuke Nakamura, “The Ring General” has owned the WWE Intercontinental Title and made it his own.
He had previously already broken the record for the longest-running champion of the 21st century but has now cracked one year with the championship belt. Gunther marked the occasion with a simple tweet.

If Gunther can hold the title until September 8, 2023, he will officially surpass The Honky Tonk Man’s longest-reigning Intercontinental Championship run from 1987-1988.
Gunther also recently broke the record for the longest time spent in a men’s Royal Rumble match.
Next, he will team with Ludwig Kaiser to take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on the June 12 episode of Monday Night Raw. Learn more here.
