Greg Hamilton Reveals The Origin Of The Shane Mcmahon ‘Best In The World’ Introductions
Greg Hamilton reveals the origins of his iconic introductions of Shane McMahon during his most recent run in WWE.
Whether you loved or hated Shane McMahon by the end of his most recent WWE run, it can certainly be argued that Greg Hamilton announcing him to the ring as “The Best In The World” is one of the most memorable WWE skits to come out of that entire run.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Greg Hamilton reveals how that entire long-running gag began and it all starts with Road Dogg and Jeff Jarrett.
“MetLife Stadium, WrestleMania, we’re at rehearsals, and we’re you know, we’re rehearsing the intros. Shane goes in the corner, ‘Best in the World, Shane McMahon.’ Well, Road Dogg and Jeff Jarrett were helping with that segment and they were right behind me,” he began. “Road Dogg goes, ‘Hey, man. Let me just hear you just let one rip. Let me see what you can do. Come on, brother. Give it everything you got.’ I said, ‘Are you sure?’ He said, ‘yeah.’ So, we rehearsed again and I just held this note. I mean, it was like time stopped and I just kept going in this empty MetLife Stadium, empty because it’s rehearsal. I just let it rip, man. Probably the longest one I’ve ever done [was] in that rehearsal. I was done and then, Shane McMahon, he was conducting. Just having fun. It wasn’t planned. So we did it and I stopped, turned around and Road Dogg goes, ‘Damn, can you do that again tonight?’ Thus, ‘Best in the World’ was born.”
Shane McMahon lost a “Loser Leaves WWE” Ladder Match against Kevin Owens on the debut of SmackDown on FOX back in October 2019. Since then, he has been utilized in a backstage capacity. Shane McMahon can be seen as one of the producers at the 2020 Royal Rumble where Edge makes his triumphant return after nine years out of action.
