‘Goldenboy’ Santos Explains How Training In The Portuguese Heat Has Helped His Conditioning

Goldenboy Santos looks at how the Portuguese climate helped prepare his conditioning in the ring.

‘Goldenboy’ Santos discusses how the Portuguese heat prepared him for the conditioning required in the ring.

In the European scene, most countries have similar mild weather, but when it comes to getting close to the equator, Portugal, Spain and other countries in the region come with a heat filled climate. This is a tough condition to participate in sports under, none more so than in professional wrestling.

Portugal’s own Goldenboy Santos explained how the climate has effected him in the world of wrestling while speaking to Fightful’s Corey Brennan in a recent interview.

“I have a good example for that, like last week we had a show here and we had CJ West that you must be familiar with from the Irish scene. After his match, he came to me and he was like, ‘bro, this is so freaking warm. I don’t know what’s happening inside. I’m soaking wet. I could barely breathe.’ Then I’m like, yeah, we’re kind of used to that. Because even our winters are not as cold as the Irish winter or the British winter. So, even in those conditions with the lights and the heat that comes from the lights can be a problem for people that are not used to this weather. But for us, I think we, we are used to it, I guess. I had some trouble in Germany when I went there for the winter tapings during COVID time. It was very, very cold. So I had the opposite. I can feel that might have helped with our conditioning and our training because we train under those conditions. It’s the normal for us. So we are pretty much used to it by now.”

Goldenboy is a familiar face in OTT, wXw and the Portguese wrestling scene as a whole, and was trained by current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther.
