Goldberg Speaks On If He Agrees With The Way His Streak In WCW Ended, Reveals A Few Of His Favorite Opponents, And More

Goldberg is on his way into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

2018 WWE Hall Of Fame inductee Bill Goldberg will be accepting the honor amongst his peers in the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on April 6th. Prior the ceremony in two weeks, Goldberg spoke with NOLA.com about being gracious for the recognition of being considered one of the greats in WWE's history, and would also reveal that he never expected to make it this far in pro wrestling.

"I thought there was absolutely no way I would do it," Goldberg said about starting a professional wrestling career. "No way. I was a kid who was born in a football helmet. That was all I ever aspired to be. I never wanted to do anything else. (Wrestling) wasn't even an option."

Goldberg was one of the biggest attractions in WCW and having being positioned as one of the biggest stars in the company surely provided a confidence boost. Goldberg added in that he was never in professional wrestling for the paycheck, but rather to be the best at it.

"I hate to sound cocky, but if you're not going to be the best at something, there's no reason to try it. So if I didn't always aspire to be the best and think I could be the best, then I never would have done it."

Last year at WrestleMania 33, Goldberg put the WWE Universal Championship on the line against Brock Lesnar. Although he came up short, Goldberg walked way happier than he did at WrestleMania 20 and it all had to do with family.

"Well, other than my wife thinking I killed myself going through the barrier, it was an unbelievable experience that can't be explained to another human being unless they go through it themselves," Goldberg said. "Just looking at my son and seeing the enjoyment he had, and my wife, of the entire experience, it was worth everything I've done in my life and it's worth everything I did in getting back into shape and trying to present the Goldberg of old. It was an unbelievable experience that can never be duplicated."

At 'Starrcade' 1998, Goldberg's 173-0 win streak came to an end as outside interference caused him to lose both the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and his winning streak to Kevin Nash. Some feel as if Goldberg's streak should not have ended in such fashion, but the man himself has no sour grapes about the situation.

"At the end of the day, I'm a talent and I'm paid to perform. I'm not paid to book, I'm not paid to forecast stories, I'm paid to complete the story and fulfill the story. It's hard for me to give an objective opinion and I lose the streak the night of my birthday, and it was a situation to where it was up in the air as to whether it should be done or not. It's just not me, it's not my job. I take the task at hand and try to complete it to the best of my ability."

The former WWE Universal Champion has stepped into the ring with a number of competitors throughout his career. He would reveal some of his favorites that he has had the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with.

"I always loved to wrestle Scott Steiner because he beat the hell out of me as much as I was beating the hell out of him. I'm very proud of it. Dallas Page put me through an unbelievable match. Pressing Brock over my head at WrestleMania 20 was a pretty cool deal; I don't know if anybody's ever done that. Raven, the U.S. match. The match against Hogan."

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Goldberg did not rule out a possible return to in-ring competition. But for now, the future WWE Hall Of Famer has his eye on two stars who are currently on WWE's roster, and a woman who will be competing for the RAW Women's Championship at WrestleMania.

"I'd say Braun is really the guy. I also like Brock. I'm a warrior, I'm a carnivore, I was born to use my size and I like people that do the same. I'm drawn to other meatheads who are intimidating. Those two guys right there fit the bill. I can greatly appreciate what they both do, and Nia Jax as well. I am a fan of her work." Goldberg stated.

We will have live coverage of the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony on April 6th, as well as coverage of everything wrestling during WrestleMania weekend.
