Gillberg Talks Meeting Goldberg, Wants The Two Of Them To Have A Match

Like the Bizarro Superman meeting his original counterpart, Gillberg recounts his first time meeting Goldberg.

Gillberg recently talked with legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter and revealed he first met Goldberg several months ago and while Goldberg was not a fan of the Gillberg character when he first debuted for WWF, Goldberg was much more appreciative, according to Gillberg.

“I met Goldberg at the big event in New York about six months ago,” Gillberg said. “At first he was [upset]. He hated it, he even told me, “you got an ass-whooping coming.’ But now, this many years later, I told the guy that was promoting the [NY event}, 'I want a photo-op with him. I just want to go talk to him,’ and they said, ‘Yeah, come on over.’ When we were up on stage, there were like 300 people in the room. He lifts me up over his head….We let everyone take pictures. As soon as we were done, he came up to me and said, ‘Thank you, brother.” I ask him 'For what?' He said, ‘For keeping me relevant. I’ve been gone all this time and every time they see you, they think of me. Thank you brother.’ It was my pleasure. I tell you what, I would love to wrestle him. I told Bill ‘Let’s make this match. You’ll make a million dollars, I make $100,000 and we’ll both be happy.’”

Gillberg, an obvious parody of Goldberg when the former world heavyweight champion was in WCW, was a mainstay in WWF in the late 1990s and was a former light heavyweight champion. Gillberg recently returned to WWE in February in a segment with then-Universal Champion Kevin Owens.
