Gail Kim Jokes It Would Take ‘John Cena Money’ To Get Her Out Of Retirement

Gail Kim last wrestled on April 28, 2019, coming out of retirement to face Tessa Blanchard.

Kim last worked a full-time schedule in 2017, and though she’s made various appearances on IMPACT Wrestling and works for the company as a producer, she has no concrete plan to come out of retirement for another match.

“This is what I say to Scott D’Amore and the creative team when they ask me, ‘Well, I’m a company girl, I’ll never say no. I just need some Kurt Angle money to come out of retirement,'” Kim said with a laugh when asked about wrestling against on Busted Open Radio. “That’s never going to happen. This week, we were at TV and they always joke around about it, it’s like a daily joke, so I changed it from Kurt Angle money to John Cena money. It would take a lot. If you have closure on your career, final match, you close that door, it would take a lot to come back.”

While Kim still looks like she’s physically ready to wrestle, living a day-to-day life and stepping in the wrestling ring are two different things.

Commenting on her physical health in terms of wrestling, Kim said, “I work my ass off every day of the week to make my day-to-day very normal. So, people who see me, they probably ask me to come out of retirement because I appear normal, but I know if I had a match…I’m probably one or two matches away from another back surgery.”

As the top producer of the women’s division in IMPACT Wrestling, Kim has been used sporadically on-screen as an authority figure for the Knockouts division.
