Some unfortunate news to pass along.

The wrestling world has unfortunately lost another one of its members in 2019 as the news was shared by Terry Thornton, that her husband — former 6-time NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Les Thornton passed away at the age of 84-years old. SLAM! Sports provided the following message about the announcement of Les Thornton’s passing which comes from his wife Terry’s Facebook:

“It is with great sadness we share that Les Thornton peacefully took his leave on February 1, 2019 at 11:15 am, with his devoted wife, Terry at his side. In honor of Les’ wishes there will be no funeral service. Instead, those wishing to pay respects are invited to make a donation to the Calgary Humane Society.”

The Cauliflower Alley Club alerted the public of Thornton’s passing as well with a post on Twitter:

Les Thornton was born in Manchester, England and traveled the world as a professional wrestler as he competed in Japan, Australia, Canada and the United States. Les Thornton was viewed as one of the best junior heavyweights in the world accredited to the numerous Junior Heavyweight Titles he captured such as the NWA Florida Junior Title, NWA Junior World Title on six separate occasions and winning the ‘World Wrestling Council’ World Junior Heavyweight Championship twice.

Les Thornton’s last match was in April of 1991 at a Canadian National Wrestling Alliance television taping and prior to that he worked a number of house shows for the World Wrestling Federation. Thornton is succeeded by his six children and we here at Fightful would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Les Thornton.
