Over the years, several football players have successfully transitioned into the wrestling world. Some prominent examples include Goldberg, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Roman Reigns, among others.

TMZ Sports reports that WWE invited Wright, a 28-year-old former NFL player, to the company’s two-day tryout at the IMG Academy in Florida. The report noted that 17 of the 30-plus athletes at the tryout were former college football players.

Wright starred for the University of Arizona during his collegiate career. He won the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year award in 2014, among other accolades, including the Bronko Nagurski Award and the Lombardi Award. The Cleveland Browns selected Wright in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Arizona Cardinals signed Wright off the Browns’ practice squad, and he spent two seasons in the team’s system.

Wright later signed with the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football before the New England Patriots signed him in 2019, but he was released from their practice squad. The DC Defenders selected Wright in the 2020 XFL Draft, and after the league went on hiatus, he was drafted by the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League.
