Finn Balor Says Brock Lesnar Destroyed The Reputations Of The IWGP Heavyweight And WWE Universal Titles

Finn Balor lets it all out.

At the 2016 SummerSlam PPV, Finn Balor defeated Seth Rollins to become the first-ever WWE Universal Champion. It was soon revealed that Balor suffered a torn labrum during his match with Rollins and would have to relinquish the title so that he could have surgery. Balor returned to in-ring action the following year and for months the buzz around the WWE landscape was a potential Universal Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Finn Balor. That match has yet to take place and recently after two years, Balor received a match for the Universal Title which he was never beaten for.

Up until last month’s SummerSlam PPV Brock Lesnar reigned strong as the head honcho of Monday Night RAW for well over a year. Roman Reigns dethroned Lesnar at the “Biggest Party Of The Summer” but Finn Balor has consistently thought about being the guy to slay the beast. During an interview with ‘Inside The Ropes’ during SummerSlam weekend last month, Balor was asked about a potential match with Brock Lesnar and while giving his answer Finn compared Brock’s run in NJPW as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion to Brock’s run as Universal Champion and Finn recalled Lesnar departing from NJPW and tarnishing the reputation of the prestigious IWGP Heavyweight Title and added that Brock was doing the same with the Universal Title.

“Well, I don’t make that decision. Im just very low on the totem pole with regards to who makes the matches.” Finn jokingly said. “But obviously I would love the Brock Lesnar match more than anyone. I think it’s the classic David versus Goliath match. I don’t think it’s very much like a match I’ve had before or he’s had before maybe, and someone who I had a very brief crossing of the paths with in New Japan, and when I was in New Japan as a young boy, he was the New Japan Champion, and you know what he did? He walked out on the company, and destroyed the reputation of the title belt, and he’s kind of doing the same thing now.” Finn continued, “I mean I hope he’s not listening to this interview. Honestly when Brock’s music hits everyone pays attention and despite all this talk about, ‘Aw, he’s not there every week and he’s not invested’. I know that when his music hits and he walks out I’m invested and I’m intrigued to see what’s going to happen and there’s certainly an aura that Brock carries that nobody else carries and that’s the type of aura I want to be in the ring with and I want to feel and experience. When I first came up to the WWE [main roster], I wrestled Roman, obviously on RAW, beat him on my first night, no big deal but a couple weeks later [One year Balor meant] we had No Mercy pay-per-view… No it was a Extreme Rules PPV and it was five way. It was me, Samoa Joe, [Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins] and Roman, and everyone came to the ring and then Roman’s music hit and I’m not kidding it was the most insane reaction I’ve ever experienced in my life and that type of reaction is the type of thing I want to be involved in.” Finn concluded.
