Finals Set In NJPW G1 Climax 31

The finals are set in the NJPW G1 Climax 31.

Kazuchika Okada is headed back to the finals of NJPW G1 Climax after besting Jeff Cobb in the B Block finals. Cobb entered the night with a 8-0 record while Okada was 7-1, setting up a winner take all showdown in the main event.

Okada got the better of Cobb, finishing him off with a Rainmaker for the victory. Despite having the same record, Okada’s victory earned him the tiebreaker.

Okada will now face Kota Ibushi in the finals of the tournament.

The finals of the NJPW G1 Climax 31 will take place on October 21. The winner of the tournament will earn a briefcase that allows him to challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom.

Okada is 2-0 in the G1 Finals, but hasn’t been to the finals since 2014 when he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura. Ibushi has made three straight G1 Finals and is 2-1, winning each of the last two years. The last time the two met in singles competition, Ibushi defeated Okada on opening night of the 2021 G1 Climax tournament.
