Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel Defeat Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher To Win NXT Tag Team Titles
New NXT Tag Team Champions have been crowned under somewhat unusual circumstances.
Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner of Imperium defeated Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher to win the titles in the opening match of tonight’s episode of NXT.
Things started to go well for Riddle and Thatcher, but late in the match, Thatcher walked out on his tag partner, leaving Riddle to fend for himself. Despite a valiant effort from Riddle, Barthel and Aichner were too much for him.

Riddle and Thatcher’s time as tag team champions was somewhat brief given that Thatcher wasn’t Riddle’s original partner. Thatcher was chosen to replace Pete Dunne as Riddle’s other half as Dunne was unable to travel to the United States. Riddle and Dunne won the belt back in February after the two won the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Now, three-fourths of Imperium hold some version of gold in NXT. WALTER, the stable’s leader, is the current NXT UK Champion.
