EXCLUSIVE: Shane Helms Talks About Getting Back Into The Ring

Shane Helms thinks he got back into the ring at the right time.

On Fightful Wrestling's podcast, Helms talked about getting into the Impact Wrestling ring. Helms has been on Impact as a manager for the likes of Trevor Lee and Andrew Everett. But on Thursday, Helms appeared in a four-way match on an episode of Impact Wrestling. Helms says this was not the first time he was asked to get into the ring by the promotion.

"They wanted me to do stuff since I got there. I wanted to try to do different stuff, wanted to do different things. I didn't want to get back into the ring until I was ready either," said Helms. "They wanted me in the ring since the day I came to the company.  It was just me wanting to pace it, I didn't think it was needed at certain times. I didn't want to waste it until we had something good," he added.

According to Helms, he didn't want to be in a match until he felt like it was worth it.

"They wanted me to do one of the Ultimate X matches, just all kinds of stuff to use the name value. There's still some value to the Hurricane name. Understandably so, that's why it's the Helms Dynasty," said Helms.  "Especially the Ultimate X, I was like 'I don't need to be out there with them flipping bastards, let them do that shit. I'll be on the floor cheering Trevor on or Andrew on,'"  he continued.

He also said he's starting to take bookings in parts of the world he had said no to in the past few years. He said he got into better shape for his own health but it has contributed to him getting back into the ring more often. On the podcast, Helms also talked about Wrestling Journalism and the next set of Impact Wrestling tapings.

Helms appears every Friday on Fightful Wrestling's podcast. The episodes are available immediately with free membership.
