Exclusive: Joey Janela Confirms Spring Break 2020, Even If WWE Tries To Prevent Indie Shows
Try as they might, WWE won’t be able to stop Joey Janela’s Spring Break even if they take measures next year.
Janela’s third offering of Spring Break sold out both nights quickly, to the point Janela and Game Changer Wrestling are already planning ahead. With unsubstantiated reports of WWE trying to limit independent shows surrounding their WrestleMania 36 show in Tampa, Florida next year, Game Changer wrestling was ahead of the curve.
“We have a contract locked up already. It’s already been signed, so there’s nothing they can do,” Joey Janela told Fightful. “If they kibosh all the other indies that weekend, has nothing to do with me. Brett Lauderdale was ahead of the game. He was in Tampa last week. Deal is done, there’s nothing they can do. We’re expecting something special next year. It’s going to be a wild crowd.”
Before Janela and GCW get to 2020, they have two shows on April 5 & 6 to worry about. After several successful events prior, Janela decided to turn Spring Break into a two-night spectacular. With tickets going fast, NXT switching nights and still plenty of demand, they pulled the trigger.
“It was an idea of mine. We sold out so fast, people were mad. We’re not running at midnight. That was a part of the charm, I felt like. But I also felt like we had to move to a premium time slot. We didn’t know NXT was running that night, they switched their time slot, so I came up with the idea to add a part two. Both sold out in under four minutes and both are going to be spectacular. I think we’re going to have double the people in (the Clusterfuck). We’re going to up the ante on surprises and names, and I want at least 100 doors for that match (to break). Brett Lauderdale better pull out his wallet and go to the Home Depot and get those doors,” said Janela.
As far as next year goes, Janela has high hopes. With the venue booked and the contract signed, all that’s left is selling the tickets — and booking dozens of surprises.
“I’m expecting next year to be the biggest indie crowd in the history of WrestleMania weekend,” he told us.
