Exclusive: Darby Allin Discusses His Unique Promo Videos, Doing High Risk Moves, More

A holiday Q&A with Darby Allin!

The Seattle, Washington native Darby Allin is making waves on the independent wrestling scene because of his unique look but mostly because of the lengths he’s willing to go to entertain the fans which has earned him the nickname “Daredevil”. This year alone Darby has competed for EVOLVE, AAW, MLW, PROGRESS, AAA, ‘Game Changer Wrestling’ and many other companies and promotions.

The “Daredevil” has had the chance to work with a plethora of in-ring performers throughout his career that have all had different styles and I asked Darby is there an adjustment that he makes when it comes to facing those different styles and he responded by noting that when he faces bigger wrestlers, it typically means a bigger ass kicking is coming.

“Yeah knowing when I face Giants I’m gonna get my ass kicked more.” Darby noted.

Even when the size is not in his favor, Darby makes sure to always leave the ring as the bigger man by having fans remember him. Those high-risk maneuvers either come with a high-reward or a crushing blow and Allin has been on the receiving end of both but shared that he does not think about the moves before he does them because thinking too much would end up costing him.

“Nope [He does not hesitate before he does a high-risk move], that’s when you get screwed.” He added.

2018 was an eventful year for Darby and there are a number of promotions that he has yet to show his skill set in and when asked about what is in the cards for Darby Allin in 2019, he simply responded with the following:

“Wherever the wind takes me dude”.

Darby Allin has been in the professional wrestling business since 2015 and has done a lot in his three years. At one point, most in-ring performers were wrestling fans but Darby shared that he is not a fan in some aspects but what he is a definite fan of is going out to the ring and delivering the best possible performance that he can for those in attendance. I asked Allin if there’s a moment that he can recall that got him into wrestling and while he didn’t name a specific match, he credited one of WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley’s matches that got him into the sport.

“Nothing in particular. Im not really a wrestling fan. I love going out there and giving it one-hundred percent. If I had to pick, [it would] most likely [be] a Mick Foley match.” Darby recalled.

Over the past few months Darby Allin has had the chance to compete against a number of NXT stars at EVOLVE events. Darby has been in the ring with Velveteen Dream, Mustafa Ali, Kassius Ohno and current NXT Tag Team Champion Roderick Strong. There was a promo video that was posted on EVOLVE’s YouTube page to hype up the match between Roderick Strong and Darby Allin. The video featured the NXT talents that Darby has competed against to hype up his match with Roddy.

The video above is the aforementioned promo and Darby shared that his good friend Max Yoder is the producer of said videos and Max is also one of the highly-regarded content creators when it comes to wrestling material.

“My man Max Yoder produces them.” Darby revealed. “He’s filmed for Thrasher Magazine and does other videos. He’s the man.”

You can catch Darby Allin in action this weekend at AAW’s ‘Windy City Classic’ show on the 29th and Darby can be found on Twitter @DarbyAllin and on Instagram @darbyallin.
