Exclusive: Adam “Hangman” Page Talks AEW Ring Size, Venues, BTE vs. Road To Shows
There are a lot of question marks surrounding All Elite Wrestling, but Adam “Hangman” Page is along for the ride.
During our recent interview, Page joked that the company didn’t yet own a wrestling ring, alluding to the fact that there are still a lot of moving parts about the operation of All Elite Wrestling. With 20×20 being the standard for WWE and New Japan, and 18×18 the norm everywhere else, Page told us that he’s hoping for the former in All Elite Wrestling.
“I can’t speak for everybody, but I know I like the 20×20 more than anything I’ve ever wrestled in. I thought they seemed way too big until I went on a couple of tours over in Japan, and came home and the ring just felt way too small. I’m partial to a bigger ring,” said Page.
Regardless of the size of the ring, you need venues to put it in (okay, not always), and Page has his eyes on several. In leaving Ring of Honor, Page missed his opportunity to wrestle at Madison Square Garden in April, but that’s not quite off his radar yet.
“I gotta be honest, I’d love to wrestle in Madison Square Garden one day. For a long time, I thought it would be something I would do, coming up here soon. Turns out not the case, so I would like the chance to wrestle there on my own terms, when All Elite Wrestling is the draw. I’d like to go back to Japan and wrestle in some of those buildings again. Korakuen Hall is probably my favorite building to wrestle in. The Budokan was really cool to be in,” said Page.
As far as things that are in focus, AEW President Tony Khan has spoken on the record about their sports-centric focus. With the popular Being The Elite series primarily rooted in comedic aspects, Page still thinks there’s room for that in the company to compliment to more serious “Road To Double or Nothing” shows that have aired.
“I love them both, and I think that’s something we do well. BTE is what it is, and everyone knows what that is at this point. Road To is a little more realistic, a little more down to earth. That’s good, too,” Page explained. “People want to see some of those genuine moments and feelings as we build towards the show. In my mind, I hope when All Elite gets moving, I hope it’s a combination of both. Wrestling is the ultimate circus and variety show. It’s a made up universe, so there’s no reason something silly couldn’t exist in that universe. Ultimately, I think All Elite Wrestling will be more sports-centered, but I want to keep some of that humor.”
