Eric Bischoff Never Heard His WWE Theme Before It Hit

Eric Bischoff is known for his on-screen character, his 83 Weeks Podcast, and being in an executive role of WCW. But one of the things that is so fondly remembered from his WWE run is that iconic “I’m Back” theme.

However, many don’t remember that wasn’t even his original theme song in WWE. The company went all out and had a well known hit to play Bischoff out in 2002.

“Yeah. I don’t know what the process was with licenses. I know when I first came out, when I was first introduced in WWE, they actually used AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black.’ I thought, ‘Well, that’s pretty cool. They’re gonna spend a couple bucks on that.’ But, it was a one time only and then they came up with something that sounds similar,” Bischoff said.

Bischoff wasn’t even sure that he would be played out to music, much less what music would play him out, and wasn’t involved in the creative process of putting it together.

“I never met the people involved. I didn’t know anything (before the debut) man. I didn’t ask any questions. They didn’t give me any information. I just showed up in a plane. It was kinda cool,” Bischoff told Fightful.

When the switch from “Back in Black” to “I’m Back” happened, Bischoff was oblivious to it.

“Honestly, I didn’t really notice it. ‘Cause, for me, I get my head in a weird zone, you know? I try to. There’s so much going on. It’s just noise. It’s like static noise in the background. I don’t really hear it the same way the people at home hear it or maybe even the people in the arena hear it. So, I didn’t really even notice it until I got home and watched it on television and went, ‘Oh, wow. That’s a different song.’”
