Eli Drake Confirms IMPACT Contract Expires On May 31; Will Weigh His Options
What’s best for Eli Drake?
Earlier this month it was reported by PWInsider that Eli Drake‘s contract with IMPACT Wrestling expires in late May but no firm date was given. Appearing on The Wrestling Perspective podcast, Drake confirmed that his contract expires on May 31 and commented on WWE’s rumored interest in him.
“I got tagged on social media and it said, ‘WWE interested in Eli Drake.’ I looked at it and said, ‘Nobody has contacted me.’ So, what’s the source? I’ve talked to people there that I’m friendly with but nobody’s overt,” said Drake. “People have been like, ‘I think you’d do well here.’ But nobody was overtly making me an offer. It was more friendly conversations along with, ‘By the way. You could probably think about it.’ I know AEW is out there, all that stuff. There’s a lot of options at this point. Truth be told, I run up on May 31 here at IMPACT. If that’s the case, it’s time to start thinking about what options I have. Should I stay or should I go? We will find out. There’s so many options out there. How can I best boost my brand awareness and how can I put more money in my pocket? It’s a matter of figuring out what’s going to work best for me long-term.”
After getting lost in the shuffle throughout 2018, Drake is back being a featured player on IMPACT television, currently involved in a storyline with Eddie Edwards. However, he is not booked for IMPACT’s United We Stand show over WrestleMania Weekend. He was originally scheduled to face Tessa Blanchard, but pulled out of the bout.
