El Phantasmo performs for New Japan Pro Wrestling as a member of Bullet Club and is a two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion with Taiji Ishimori. Additionally, he is a back-to-back winner of the Super J-Cup, emerging victoriously in 2019 and 2020. Fellow NJPW stars Juice Robinson and David Finlay are the current IMPACT Tag Team Champions, recently retaining their titles against The Good Brothers at Rebellion on April 25th.
IMPACT (formerly TNA) and NJPW have had a contentious relationship in the past, with the latter holding a grudge for the former’s less-than-ideal handling of Tetsuya Naito and Kazuchika Okada. There was also the time TNA executed an IWGP Tag Title change without permission. Not to mention NJPW being pulled from AXS TV after Anthem, IMPACT’s parent company, purchased a majority stake in the network. This list goes on. Nevertheless, the ice that has built up between the two continues to melt.
AEW, who have also been crossing over with IMPACT, recently announced that Jon Moxley will defend the IWGP United States championship against Yuji Nagata, another NJPW talent, on the May 12 episode of Dynamite.
