Edge Compares His Role In Vikings To WWE

Being a Viking as well as a WWE superstar may actually have some similarities…beyond just the copious amounts of violence.

Edge spoke to Sports Illustrated about his role in the History channel drama Vikings. Since Vikings are known to have been pretty violent, the obvious connection between the two roles are pretty evident, Edge points out.

“Both Roman Reigns and Charlotte Flair have told me this is their favorite show,” he said. “Vikings is a very physical, tough show. If you see battle scenes, it’s us doing it. There are so many similar physical elements to WWE.”

He plays a character named Kjetill Flatnose, and is set to appear starting in the fifth episode. He says that while Edge was born with his fascination of Rock music, Kjetill is actually closer to Adam Copeland than Edge was in real life.

“From a backstage perspective, one of the things I always tried to do in wrestling was maintain that I was Adam” he said. “Edge was a character. There are elements of myself in every character I do, just because you take from your real life experiences and sprinkle those into your character."

“Kjetill is much closer to how I am, whereas Edge was what I always pictured of when a rock star met a wrestler and merged" he continued. "Edge was part of my fascination with KISS and Cheap Trick and Queen, mixed with wrestling. Flatnose is closer to aspiring to what I have in real life.”

Vikings will premiere its fifth season this Wendsday on the History channel.
