Edge Comments On Sasha Banks’ Fake Retirement

Forced out of wrestling in 2011 because of a recurring neck injury, Adam "Edge" Copeland said he was not bothered by Sasha Banks making a fake retirement on Raw in September.

During an interview with Gamespot to promote his appearance on the new Amazon Prime series, Bookaboo, Edge admitted he didn't see the segment, but added that "all is fair in wrestling. If anything it's a huge acting hurdle to try and leap when you've seen actual heartfelt retirements before and probably have no real acting experience. Tough spot to put her in."

Banks' promo was rumored to draw backstage heat at the time, as it was reportedly seen as drawing heat from emotional moments such as the real-life retirements of Edge and Daniel Bryan due to injuries.

An 11-time world champion in WWE, Edge retired in April of 2011, just a few days removed from what proved to be his final match at WrestleMania XXVII. Since retiring, Edge has made occasional appearances on WWE programming, and teamed with his longtime friend and tag partner Christian for The Edge and Christian Show,  which aired on the WWE Network. Edge admitted during the interview he was not sure when a second season would air, citing scheduling difficulties.

Edge has stayed fairly busy as an actor since retiring from wrestling and expressed excitement during the interview for his participation in Bookaboo, a series that consists of celebrities reading children's books.

"It's important to me because, first and foremost, it promotes reading. Reading for children, but also the importance of parents reading to their children. It's so important to the development of their vocabulary and an amazing bonding opportunity," he said.

Edge won 31 total championships in WWE, and became the first wrestler in the history of the company to win the King of the Ring tournament, the Money in the Bank ladder match, and the Royal Rumble.
