Eddie Kingston On Giving Back To The Independents: I Try To Do Good By The People Who Did Good By Me
The unrestrictive nature of AEW’s schedule allows Eddie Kingston to take care of those who took care of him.
Since signing with AEW in July 2020, Eddie Kingston has continued to work matches for independent promotions such as AAW, AIW, DEFY, and HOG. During a recent interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (full conversation seen above), The Mad King explained that money has never been a driving factor for him in the wrestling business. Instead, he takes the additional dates because he likes to give back to the places that kept him fed during his time on the independent circuit.
“Yeah. To me, money’s never been a factor because if I did this for money, I would have been out three years in. After getting to twenty dollars to split amongst eight of us. But no, it’s fun. I like giving back to the independents because for so long I was on the independents and they kept me fed. So I like giving back to certain places trying to book me. I try to do good by the people who did good by me. That’s why you’ll see me at DEFY or then the next thing you’ll know, you’ll see me at Glory Pro and people be like, ‘Why is he at Glory Pro?’ Those dudes are good people to me,” he said.
Kingston continued on to say, “Same thing with AAW and AIW and certain places. I try to go to the people who were good to me and try to give back now. That’s it.”
Currently on AEW programming, Kingston, along with Santana & Ortiz, is feuding with Chris Jericho and his Appreciation Society. After having a fireball thrown in his face two weeks ago, Kingston is vowing to make Jericho feel the same fear his wife felt after making their feud personal.
Up next for Kingston, however, is a showdown with Tomohiro Ishii at NJPW Capital Collision on Saturday, May 14. You can view the updated card here. Fightful will have coverage of the event on Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
