Eddie Edwards Discusses How His Character Has Changed This Past Year
Eddie Edwards’ career changed on March 1, 2018 when Sami Callihan smashed a baseball bat into his face.
Edwards had always been an exceptional wrestler, but aside from his feud with longtime tag team partner Davey Richards, had never been known for his character work. Once Callihan took a bat to his face, Edwards became a changed man in more ways than one.
The feud between Edwards and Callihan is one of the deepest and darkest storylines in wrestling this year. Edwards became a man consumed with rage, looking for revenge on the man that disfigured him. He became a paranoid lunatic, unwilling to listen to the advice of his friends and wife. The end result was Edwards not knowing good from evil and becoming someone he no longer recognized.
Speaking to The Wrestling Estate, Edwards discussed how his character changed with that ill-fated bat shot and subsequent storyline.
“I’m having a great time doing it,” Edwards said. “It was definitely the freak accident that had it come about, but I’ve always wanted to do some different things in the wrestling world. It’s a lot more character-driven and I get to do a lot more vignettes and promos. Anybody who has followed the story has been able to invest emotionally into it. Everybody can relate to that anger and hatred inside of you that you never want to come out. But at some point, whether someone is messing with your family or whatever, it comes out.”
Edwards’ character has cooled in recent months as he’s gotten further away from Callihan and oVe. This Sunday at Bound For Glory he takes on Moose, a man who turned his back on him and aligned himself with Austin Aries.
