EC3 Feels That He Could’ve Done More In NXT
EC3 speaks about his run and NXT and feeling that there was more left on the table for him.
“The Top 1%” of WWE, EC3 spent the majority of his 2018 as a part of the NXT brand before being called up to the main roster towards the end of 2018. EC3 had the opportunity to compete in the NXT North American Championship Ladder match at TakeOver: New Orleans, wrestle inside Royal Albert Hall and had feuds with Undisputed ERA and a spotlighted match at TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 with Velveteen Dream.
EC3 is still finding his spot on the main roster and he recently reflected on his time in NXT when he joined the Gorilla Position podcast. The former two-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion said that he has no regrets but he knows that there was more for him to accomplish in NXT.
“Man I wasn’t there too long — ten to eleven months. I kinda… a lot of what I did there is something nobody sees. A lot of what I did there was things I wanted to hone and work on to prepare me for this. So it was a lot of work in that sense as opposed to… [wrestling and appearing] on TV was cool, the ladder match of course was great, and [I] had some good TV runs with Undisputed ERA, little feud with Velveteen but it was what I did behind the scenes, what I did in the P.C., what I did on shows in little Florida. Take back my game a couple steps, prepare it for when this opportunity did come so, I can’t think of the right parallel… to maybe sports.” EC3 continued, “A lot of the work was done, not with the red light on and NXT is awesome. What a brand, phenomenal talent. I don’t have regrets, but I have, ‘Man I could’ve done… there’s so much more that could’ve been done’, but at the same time, my number was called. This is what I want, this is where I am, this is where I wanna be so, the work prepared me for this. I don’t wanna say it was unfulfilled but definitely more, I could’ve done… man, I really wanted to throw Ricochet into the blazing sun.” He laughed. “I just really wanted to do that, but, no, it was great. Great brand. Great future. Excellent product so, very fortunate to be a part of it even if it was just a very small part.”
While briefly mentioning TNA in this article, former TNA President Dixie Carter was brought up during Randy Orton and AJ Styles’ promo on SmackDown to set up their WrestleMania 35 match. For more on that, click here.
